We so deeply wish we could have everyone together and participate in this farewell. We know Jim impacted and influenced so many people all over the country. Due to the current climate, unfortunately we cannot gather en masse. So, we’ve figured out an alternative way to have everyone participate meaningfully. We hope you will...
As you well know, Jim Nemec was larger than life. So we thought it best to honor him in a way that reflected his grandeur. At one point, Jim made the mistake of telling his son that he wanted a viking funeral. These ancient ship burials were quite the spectacle; they included the bereaved, and all their earthly possessions laid on top of a boat, set aflame, and cast off to sea.
Don’t worry, we’re not going to do that. But, perhaps something inspired by that. Here’s where you come in.
We plan to collect your stories, photos and any written memories you’d like to share. Jim’s immediate family will construct a boat and, along with his ashes, light it ablaze sending Jim out to rest on a remote lake in the Adirondack Mountains. Jim loved boats, camping, and the Adirondacks.
If you would like to participate, please send us your name and mailing address. We will mail you a little piece of that boat for you and your family to decorate, write a story on, a prayer or just simply add your name to the many that want to honor this very special man.
We will include a return envelope for you to send your boat piece back to us. We hope to have lots of pieces to weave together and build an amazing vessel that we can set sail out into the lake. In August, we are going to have a private ceremony with family and will spend a few days assembling all the pieces into a boat fitting for a Norse Viking.
We will make sure to document the event and share it with all who would like.
We hope that this process allows everyone who participates, an opportunity to feel connected with Jim’s legendary spirit. May Jim’s legacy live on in eternity, blazing bright across the waters of our memories of him!
We love you all,
Jim’s family
We had our ceremony on August 11th, 2021. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who participated. Jim had a spectacular send off.
